Often referred to as the “Sacred Sister of Machu Picchu,” Choquequirao shares striking architectural and spiritual similarities with the most renowned citadel of the Inca Empire. Yet, it preserves a far more pristine, untouched, and authentic essence.

This experience has been thoughtfully designed for travelers with an adventurous spirit—those who seek to go beyond the conventional. Over the course of approximately 63 kilometers of trekking, you will traverse dramatic landscapes dominated by the imposing Apurímac Canyon—one of the deepest in Peru—crossing diverse ecosystems where nature reveals itself in its most raw and untamed form.

While the physical demand is moderate, this journey requires good physical condition and prior acclimatization. The reward, however, is truly unparalleled: the opportunity to explore one of the last remaining Inca refuge cities in a setting that is remote, serene, and profoundly spiritual.

Itinerario
Día 1

DAY 1: CUSCO – CACHORA – PLAYA ROSALINA

Your experience begins in the early hours of the morning with a private pick-up from your hotel in Cusco. We travel in exclusive transportation to the picturesque village of Cachora (3,300 m / 10,827 ft), the starting point of your trekking adventure.

From here, we embark on a 6 to 7-hour journey through breathtaking Andean landscapes of remarkable scenic beauty—ideal for photography and quiet contemplation.

The trail begins with a gradual descent into the dramatic Apurímac Canyon, with carefully planned stops for rest and to fully appreciate the surroundings. A thoughtfully prepared lunch will be served along the route before continuing to Playa Rosalina (1,600 m / 5,249 ft), nestled at the canyon’s base, where our first camp will be set.

Día 2

DAY 2: PLAYA ROSALINA – MARANPATA – CHOQUEQUIRAO

Following an early breakfast, we begin one of the most demanding yet rewarding sections of the journey: the ascent toward Choquequirao.

Over approximately six hours of uphill trekking, you will traverse spectacular landscapes featuring sugarcane plantations, diverse local wildlife, and, with a bit of luck, the majestic flight of the Andean condor.

We arrive at Maranpata for a well-deserved lunch before continuing the final stretch toward Choquequirao.

Upon arrival, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the archaeological complex and the vast Apurímac Canyon. We will explore this extraordinary site, where agricultural terraces, ceremonial structures, residential areas, and partially unexplored sectors reveal the grandeur of the Inca civilization.

Your expert guide will share in-depth insights into the historical significance of this strategic Inca enclave.

The day concludes in Raqaypata (2,910 m / 9,547 ft), where dinner and rest await.

Día 3

DAY 3: RAQAYPATA – CHIQUISKA

After breakfast, we begin our return journey, once again crossing the impressive Apurímac Canyon.

This approximately 10-hour trekking day offers a renewed opportunity to appreciate the region’s biodiversity—lush vegetation, vibrant orchids, and, if fortune favors, sightings of soaring condors.

We will stop at Playa Rosalina for lunch before continuing to Chiquiska, where we will spend the night at our camp.

 

Día 4

DAY 4: CHIQUISKA – CACHORA – CUSCO

An early morning start marks the final ascent back to Cachora, with an approximate hiking time of seven hours.

Along the way, enjoy once more the panoramic views of the snow-capped Padrayoc peak and the majestic Apurímac Canyon.

On our return journey to Cusco, we will make a stop at the Cconoc hot springs, where you can unwind and immerse yourself in the natural surroundings.

Arrival in Cusco is expected at approximately 10:00 p.m.
