Descripción del Tour

A Millenary Tradition Suspended Above the Andes

Discover one of Peru’s most extraordinary cultural treasures and one of the most authentic living expressions of the Inca legacy. The majestic Q’eswachaka Bridge is far more than an ancient engineering masterpiece; it is a symbol of identity, tradition, and cultural continuity that has endured the passage of time.

Suspended above the deep waters of the Apurímac River at over 3,700 meters (12,139 ft) above sea level, this remarkable suspension bridge, entirely handcrafted from ichu grass—the sacred grass of the Andes—represents the last functioning Inca bridge still preserved and renewed using ancestral techniques passed down from generation to generation.

Each year, local communities gather to reconstruct the bridge through a collective ceremony filled with symbolism, spirituality, and profound respect for the traditions inherited from their ancestors. This ancestral practice has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, making Q’eswachaka one of South America’s most important living cultural traditions.

During this experience, you will have the opportunity to cross the bridge and feel the thrill of walking on a handcrafted structure that has defied time, while admiring spectacular Andean landscapes, dramatic canyons, and breathtaking natural scenery.

More than a visit, this is an invitation to connect with the essence of the Andes, discover the wisdom of an extraordinary civilization, and experience a unique journey that blends history, adventure, living culture, and ancestral traditions.

An exclusive experience designed for travelers seeking to discover the most authentic, profound, and extraordinary side of Peru.

Itinerario
Día 1

CUSCO – Q'ESWACHAKA INCA BRIDGE – CUSCO

Our experience begins early in the morning when one of our representatives picks you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 5:00 a.m. to begin a fascinating journey south through spectacular Andean landscapes, traditional villages, and scenery that preserves the most authentic essence of Peru.

Our first stop will be the village of Cusipata, where we will enjoy a carefully prepared breakfast before continuing this extraordinary cultural adventure.

Along the route, we will admire the stunning circuit of the Four Andean Lakes: Pomacanchi, Acopia, Asnaqocha, and Pampamarca, beautiful high-altitude lagoons surrounded by mountains, agricultural fields, and communities that continue to preserve their ancestral traditions.

We will then visit the unique Pabellones Volcano, an interesting geological formation located near the town of Yanaoca, before continuing to the district of Quehue, situated at 3,792 meters (12,441 ft) above sea level.

It is here, in this remote corner of the Andes, where one of Peru’s greatest cultural treasures awaits: the legendary Q’eswachaka Bridge, the last functioning Inca suspension bridge. Every year, local communities completely rebuild it using techniques that have been passed down for more than six centuries.

Upon arrival, you will have the opportunity to cross this extraordinary example of traditional engineering and experience the thrill of walking on a structure made entirely of woven ichu grass fibers. While overlooking the dramatic Apurímac Canyon, your guide will share the history, symbolism, and cultural significance of this unique tradition.

The name Q’eswachaka comes from two Quechua words: Q’eswa, meaning “braid,” and Chaka, meaning “bridge,” perfectly reflecting the artisanal techniques used in its construction.

After the guided visit, you will have free time to explore the surroundings, admire the landscape, and capture unforgettable photographs.

We will continue to the Mosoc Llaqta viewpoint, offering magnificent panoramic views of Pampamarca and Asnaqocha Lakes. Later, we will visit another spectacular viewpoint overlooking Acopia and Pomacanchi Lakes, showcasing some of Cusco’s most beautiful and lesser-known landscapes.

Finally, we return to Cusipata to enjoy a comforting lunch before beginning our journey back to Cusco.

Arrival is scheduled for approximately 5:00 p.m.
