At Moray, you will visit one of the most remarkable archaeological sites in Peru. Its circular terraces are believed to have served as an agricultural experimentation center where the Incas recreated different microclimates to test and adapt a wide variety of crops.

Later, we will visit the impressive Maras Salt Mines, consisting of thousands of salt ponds fed by a natural underground saline spring. Through the process of solar evaporation, these pools produce the famous Maras Pink Salt, highly valued for its natural, cultural, and culinary significance.

Día 1

CUSCO – MARAS – MORAY – SALT MINES – CUSCO

Your experience begins with hotel pickup in Cusco at approximately 8:30 a.m., followed by a scenic drive into the Sacred Valley.

Our first stop will be the traditional village of Maras, located at approximately 3,300 m / 10,827 ft above sea level. From here, you can enjoy spectacular views of the Urubamba Mountain Range and iconic snow-capped peaks such as Verónica and Chikón.

Maras preserves its traditional Andean and colonial architecture and has a fascinating history linked to noble Cusco families who settled in the region during colonial times. Its adobe church houses valuable examples of Cusco’s religious art.

We then continue to Moray, one of the most unique archaeological complexes in the Andean world. Its circular terraces, built within natural depressions, demonstrate the Incas’ advanced agricultural knowledge and their remarkable ability to adapt crops to different ecological conditions.

During the guided visit, you will learn about Moray’s role as a possible agricultural research center where crops such as potatoes, corn, and other essential Andean products were studied and cultivated.

Afterward, we will visit the breathtaking Maras Salt Mines, where thousands of salt ponds cascade down the mountainside, creating one of the most visually stunning landscapes in Peru. Here, you will discover the traditional salt extraction techniques that have been preserved for generations.

At the conclusion of the tour, we return to Cusco, arriving around midday or early afternoon depending on the pace of the visit.
